Rick Trayner
General Manager
Packaging Corporation of America
SLC Container & Specialty
I was born and raised in SLC, UT, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication—Public Relations at the University of Utah in 1990. Hired on with Packaging Corporation of America through their Corporate Sales Training program in June of 1990, and relocated to Northampton, MA, to complete the training program at PCA Northampton facility. In January 1991, accepted a sales position at the PCA Baltimore, MD, facility to cover Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Southern Pennsylvania.
Returned to SLC in July of 1991 to sell for the PCA SLC Container facility covering the Northern Utah sales territory until accepting the Sales Manager position at the PCA SLC Specialty in mid 1994. In October of 1998, I was promoted to General Manager of SLC Specialty operation until accepting a promotion to manage the PCA Garland, TX, facility in August of 2000. In 2004 the PCA Garland facility was voted number one plant to work for out of 65 PCA plants nationwide due to the Golden Rule Work Environment instilled by the management team.
In March 2005, after five years in Texas, I was given the opportunity to relocate back home in Utah and manage the two PCA facilities. Wife of 15 years, Colleen Trayner, 10-year old son Ryan Trayner, and 5-year old daughter Skylar Trayner, returned to Utah in May 2005 and the family resides in Sandy, UT.
